I recently joined Pinterest (another addicting site, but it's more useful than facebook :) and came across this Dishwasher Detergent recipe. I got all the ingredients at Walmart today, although now that I'm home I realized I bought the wrong kind of Lemonade. After reading the comments I'm going to try to find the citric acid that is either near the canning stuff or in the pharmacy section. Once I have that I can try out this homemade detergent. Sounds like it works well. The tips I read are to sprinkle in the Lemi Shine in the bottom of your dishwasher and add the detergent to your dispenser but leave the lid open so it can rinse several times. This site also has a laundry detergent recipe. When my current detergent gets low I may give it a try. This will save our family some money since it will be so much cheaper. Oh and Walmart had some nice sized containers with lids that I picked up for around $4 each.
UPDATE: I don't like this dishwasher detergent. My dishes come out gritty, glasses are filmy and the silverware isn't always clean. So I ended up rewashing my dishes. I dumped the recipe and went back to my store bought brand. Hate it when things like this don't work out like I would have hoped.
